Importance of Manipur State Unit

The Manipur State Unit of the World Meetei Council (WMC) serves as the spiritual and cultural core of the Meetei movement. As the ancestral homeland of the Meetei people, Manipur is not only central to the identity and history of the community but also plays a foundational role in shaping WMC’s direction, strategies, and impact.

Located at the cultural heart of the Meetei civilization, the Manipur State Unit holds a central role in shaping WMC’s vision and voice. It serves as a strategic policy partner in issues like the ST demand movement, language preservation, and organizing major events such as the Imphal Declaration (2022). The unit also coordinates with district and zonal bodies to ensure inclusive representation.

Manipur has been the venue for several of WMC’s most significant milestones:

  • 3rd Plenary Session – Sugnu, Manipur, 2023

  • 4th Plenary Session – Imphal, Manipur, 2024

  • 5th Plenary Session – Moirang, Manipur, 2025

Why Manipur State Unit Is Crucial?

The Manipur State Unit is not only the operational backbone of the organization but also the moral and historical compass guiding WMC’s mission to protect Meetei interests globally.

Ancestral Homeland: The cultural, linguistic, and spiritual heartland of Meetei civilization.

  • Strategic Influence: Sets the tone and ideological clarity for WMC’s national and international initiatives.

  • Grassroots Powerhouse: Houses a large, politically active Meetei population with deep-rooted community networks.

  • Policy Leadership: Provides leadership input and field mobilization for critical campaigns like constitutional protection (ST status) and indigenous identity recognition.
